Fantasy football projections, Week 12: Bills-Chiefs featuring LeSean McCoy, Sammy Watkins and Travis Kelce
We break down the Week 12 matchup between the Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills tried their best to top the New England Patriots last week. It wasn’t good enough, but a blown call by the referees may have changed the outcome. Nevertheless, the Bills still had something to be proud of while leaving Gillette Stadium this past Monday. Running back LeSean McCoy’s performance was one of them. He touched the ball 26 times against the Patriots and produced 123 total yards and a touchdown. He’s now been consistently productive for fantasy owners in each of the last three weeks. That’s a good sign as the fantasy postseason approaches. It’ll tough for him to repeat solid numbers against a strong Chiefs run defense on the road, but if he does, McCoy would get an added vote of confidence from his owners.
Hopefully fantasy owners of wide receiver Sammy Watkins will be able to say the same thing. He has struggled for the most part this year. Watkins only has three touchdown catches on the season and a single 100-yard receiving game to his name. The good news is that on Tuesday, Coach Rex Ryan acknowledged that Watkins needs to get more targets in the passing game. Combine that with the fact that the Chiefs have been generous to wide receivers this season and Sunday could produce huge numbers for the Bills’ sophomore receiver.
Kansas City Chiefs
It seems no matter who starts at running back for the Chiefs, whether it’s Jamaal Charles, Charcandrick West or Spencer Ware, Kansas City can be efficient running the football. Unfortunately that fact has affected the team’s passing game. Wide receiver Jeremy Maclin is particularly being hit hard fantasy wise. He only has two touchdowns on the season. And in each of the last four games he’s been held under 50 receiving yards. It’s amazing what moving to a new team can do for your fantasy numbers. Maclin may still have a little bit left in him, but it’s clear that Kansas City’s priority is to run the football.
Considering that, the best option in the team’s passing game would be tight end Travis Kelce. Even then, it should be noted he hasn’t surpassed 50 receiving yards since Week 7. Given that it’s hard to tell at this point whether Charcandrick West or Spencer Ware will start at running back on Sunday, though, perhaps Kelce is worth a try against Buffalo.
