Fantasy football projections, Week 12: Cardinals-49ers featuring Carson Palmer, Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin
We break down the Week 12 matchup between the Arizona Cardinals and the San Francisco 49ers.
Arizona Cardinals
Quarterback Carson Palmer just keeps on rolling. He's amassed an impressive 11 touchdown passes over the last three games combined. Those kind of numbers even out the fact that he's also thrown four interceptions. Palmer has thrown for more than 300 yards in each of those games as well. An upcoming match up against the San Francisco 49ers isn't exactly intimidating, so the quarterback of the Cardinals should experience nothing more than another successful week. His fantasy owners have to be licking their chops at this point.
A big day for Palmer should mean more steady numbers for wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald. He's unfortunately been shut out of the end zone in each of the last two weeks, but Fitzgerald has been targeted at least 13 times in each of the last three games. The only question mark surrounding whether he gets a touchdown this week is whether the Cardinals will even need it. Week 12 could get out of hand, and fantasy owners will feel good about the prospects of a future Hall Of Fame receiver finding the end zone.
San Francisco 49ers
If there's any bright side in terms of the potential for fantasy performances by 49ers players this week, it probably exhibits itself in the form of wide receiver Anquan Boldin. He came back to the lineup against the Seattle Seahawks last week after missing the team's previous two games due to injuries. Boldin caught five passes for 93 yards. He only has two touchdowns on the season but much of that has to do with shaky play at quarterback in San Francisco. Still, Boldin could very well find himself doing a touchdown dance in garbage time against the Cardinals. He's the only receiver guaranteed to get targets in Week 12, so he's worth taking a look at.
Those who really want to gamble can take a look at tight end Vance McDonald. He had his breakout game against the Seahawks last week if you want to call it that. McDonald caught all four of his targets for 65 yards and his first career NFL touchdown. He has been sitting on the sidelines in the NFL for the better part of two years. Maybe with Vernon Davis now in Denver, a guy like McDonald gets an extended look on a team that has nothing to lose for the remainder of the season.
