Fantasy football projections, Week 14: Washington-Bears featuring DeSean Jackson, Alshon Jeffery and Jeremy Langford
We break down the Week 14 matchup between Washington and the Chicago Bears.
Washington
Rookie running back Matt Jones dominated the carries in the backfield for Washington last week against the Dallas Cowboys. He carried the ball 18 times. That’s the good news. The bad news is he ran for only 49 yards. When quarterback Kirk Cousins is on his game, Washington can put up some points. The problem is that most of the time he isn’t. The quarterback’s inconsistency means that teams can key in on the running game. Jones should be able to surpass his yardage total from last week against the Chicago Bears this week. That said, in the last little while it appears his bar is set really low.
The one player definitely worth owning in Washington’s offense is wide receiver DeSean Jackson. Jackson scored a touchdown for the third week in a row last week against the Cowboys. He caught six passes for 80 yards to go with the score. It was a pretty good day for him considering how badly the quarterback performed. That’s really the only thing holding Jackson back from going off on the Bears this week. He’ll be in starting lineups everywhere and he’ll probably make a big impact on Sunday.
Chicago Bears
Despite the fact he is being targeted consistently, it has to be a little bit concerning to fantasy owners that wide receiver Alshon Jeffery hasn’t scored a touchdown since Week 8. Perhaps a mediocre Washington secondary will be the blessing that helps Jeffery get back into the end zone and deliver the goods for his owners. The targets will certainly be there and the talent is there too. It’s just a matter of whether Jay Cutler can connect with his number one target in the red zone.
Unfortunately for fantasy owners of Jeffery and the Bears’ quarterback, it looks like the team has made the transition to being a run-focused offense. Within the run-focused game plan, we’re seeing a timeshare between Jeremy Langford and Matt Forte. Langford had the hot hand going into last week’s game against the San Francisco 49ers, and yet he saw himself get out snapped and outplayed by Forte. Langford didn’t score a touchdown in the game. It was the first time he has been shut out of the end zone since Week 8. Langford has a lot of upside in the future, but for now betting on his value week to week is a roll of the dice.
