Fantasy football start/sit advice, Week 14

We’ve got a few notable names to consider for Week 14 fantasy football.

We made it. The fantasy playoffs are finally here for a lot of you. Whether you’re starting your quest for a championship berth or you still fighting to clinch a spot for Week 15, it’s another crucial weekend in the lives of fantasy owners.

Let’s run down some of the best and worst matchups for Week 14 to help you get your lineup squared away.

Start

Tyrod Taylor vs. Eagles
Now that he's coming off of two monster games, it's easy to get on board with starting Taylor again. Taylor managed to post the second-highest fantasy total for a quarterback against the Chiefs and the Texans in his last two starts. Those are two relatively tough matchups for quarterbacks. Now, Taylor faces an Eagles defense that gives up the second-most fantasy points to his position. They've given up 13 passing touchdowns in the last three weeks. This could get ugly.

Blake Bortles vs. Colts
Indianapolis allows the fifth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks, and its coming off allowing a 364-yard, four-touchdown performance from Ben Roethlisberger. Bortles went off for five touchdowns in Week 13, and he's playing off back-to-back 300-yard outings. Time to trust in him and the Jaguars' passing game again (mainly Allen Robinson).

Shaun Draughn at Browns
Cleveland nearly gave up its sixth 100-yard rushing game last week as Jeremy Hill finished the afternoon with 98 yards on the ground. Draughn has seen at least 12 carries and four receptions in each of his last four games. The Browns defense will leave plenty of space for Draughn to rack up yards.

T.J. Yeldon vs. Colts
So, it turns out the Colts are also not that great against the run. DeAngelo Williams rushed for 134 yards against this defense in Week 13. Jerrell Freeman is going to miss another game, meaning Yeldon gets an even better matchup. The Jaguars gave the rookie 19 touches last week, which is right around his season average. That's more than enough to do some damage against Indy.

Doug Baldwin at Ravens
Baldwin saw 31 targets over his last four games. He has 24 receptions and six touchdowns in that span. I was wrong about him last week, so I'm not going to make that mistake again. He's red hot, and so is Russell Wilson. Plus, the Ravens have been awful against opposing wide receivers (fourth-most fantasy points allowed).

Devante Parker vs. Giants
The rookie came through again last week with a touchdown. He showed why he was such a coveted draft pick as he high-pointed the football to beat the Ravens secondary in the end zone. Parker has seen 15 targets over the past two games. Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall both broke 100 yards receiving against the Giants last week.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins vs. Saints
He only played 21 snaps in his return in Week 13 against the Falcons, but he was still targeted six times. Now ASJ gets to face the defense that gives up the most fantasy points to tight ends. The Saints have yielded six touchdowns to tight ends in the last four games, and Greg Olsen went off for 129 yards on Sunday.

Sit

Matt Ryan at Panthers
A road game against a Carolina defense that ranks No. 7 in fantasy points allowed against quarterbacks? Not an ideal scenario for Ryan's owners. The Falcons passing game is off this year. Now they're facing the hottest team in the NFL. Ryan has two touchdowns over the last two games, and he faces an even tougher opponent for Week 14.

Philip Rivers at Chiefs
Rivers managed just 178 yards at home facing the Chiefs just before Thanksgiving. Now he heads to Arrowhead with an even more depleted crew. Stevie Johnson and Dontrelle Inman both look unlikely to play, adding to the multitude of injuries the Chargers have already suffered. Rivers doesn't have much to work with. It's time to avoid him again.

Todd Gurley vs. Lions
The past two weeks were unkind to the rookie. Gurley rushed for 60 yards on 18 carries. Three weeks ago he finished with a 2.6 yard per carry average, despite scoring a touchdown against the Bengals. The Lions' defense has been stout against the run in recent games. You might not have a better option than Gurley, but you could be justified in stating someone like Draughn over him.

Danny Woodhead at Chiefs
The usage continues to dwindle. Woodhead finished with six total touches in Week 13. The Chargers keeping Melvin Gordon involved, leaving Woodhead's owners wishing we could go back to earlier in the year. The Chiefs rank No. 6 among the toughest fantasy defenses for running backs. Woodhead can be avoided.

Kamar Aiken vs. Seahawks
Aiken's numbers look solid in his time filling in as the Ravens No. 1 wideout. He's posted double-digit PPR performances in each of his last five games since Steve Smith went down. But this week he'll face the third-toughest defense for wide receivers in fantasy scoring, and with Matt Schaub banged up, he might be teaming up with Jimmy Clausen. Mike Wallace led the Vikings receivers with a team-high 43 yards against Seattle last week.

Amari Cooper at Broncos
We've seen this show before. Cooper caught four passes for 47 yards against the Broncos in Week 4. Expect a similar performance. Only one wide receiver has scored against Denver in 2015. Just one. Can you believe it was Mike Wallace? This defense is incredibly tough on wideouts. Cooper and Michael Crabtree are in for a rough weekend.

Richard Rodgers vs. Cowboys
Rodgers is the model of a touchdown-dependent fantasy player. Last week his owners lucked out with a prayer at the end of the game. Rodgers caught a Hail Mary pass in the end zone to cap off his best game of the year. Now he takes on a Cowboys defense that's given up three touchdowns to tight ends in 2015. Don't base your lineup on another prayer.
