Editor’s update: Per Ian Rapoport, Gronk’s status is “up in the air [and] it will depend on how he feels[, b]ut he practiced well [and] is ready, if needed.”
Rob Gronkowsi injury update: TE questionable for Patriots, fantasy owners
The New England Patriots’ tight end is listed as questionable for Week 14. We break down the fantasy implications.
New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski (knee) is listed as questionable for the team's Week 14 matchup against the Houston Texans. Gronkowski did not participate in practice Wednesday before being upgraded to a limited participant on Thursday and Friday.
Fantasy impact: In typical fashion, the Patriots have provided no information on his availability and are unlikely to tip their hand before they have to. Making matters worse is that New England plays the Sunday night game, which leaves owners in a bind. Gronkowski should be viewed as a game-time decision. Without a clear indication, owners who don't have the Scott Chandler handcuff would be wise to assume the worst and go with their backup option. Chander finished last week with four receptions for 61 yards and one touchdown on seven targets against Philadelphia's defense, which allows the third fewest fantasy points to opposing tight ends. If Gronkowski is inactive, Chandler-owners should expect a similar workload against the Texans and their 12th-ranked defense against tight ends. With Gronkowski inactive, Chandler is in the TE1 conversation.
