Fantasy football projections, Week 14: Titans-Jets featuring Marcus Mariota, Delanie Walker and Brandon Marshall
We break down the Week 14 matchup between the Tennessee Titans and the New York Jets.
Tennessee Titans
Quarterback Marcus Mariota has six touchdown passes in the last two weeks. The downside of that is that he has also thrown three interceptions. As a rookie in the NFL, fantasy owners have to expect to take the good with the bad. This week’s game against New York is undoubtedly going to be a challenge, but it’s obvious that the team is more than okay with allowing Mariota to continue to learn, especially given the fact that the Titans are not exactly going to the playoffs this year. Mariota may surprise some people during the fantasy postseason given he’s an extraordinary talent with little to lose at the moment.
His situation is good news for teammate Delanie Walker. Walker has made an impact in fantasy leagues in the past as a solid streaming option. It may be time to consider him a regular starter in deeper leagues. Walker has 22 catches for 292 yards and a touchdown over the last three weeks combined and has at least 90 receiving yards in four of the last five games. It’s obvious who Mariota’s favorite target is in Tennessee and fantasy owners would be wise to take a chance on Walker as a result.
New York Jets
Like his Tennessee Titans counterpart Marcus Mariota, New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick also has six touchdown passes in his last two games. The advantage he has over Mariota is experience and a better sense of taking care of the football. Unlike Mariota, Fitzpatrick has been scot-free in the interception department in these two recent outings. He’s also going up against a Titans defense that ranks in the bottom third of the league in trying to limit fantasy points at the quarterback position. Fitzpatrick should over deliver in Week 14.
His hot play of late only helps to serve the exploits of wide receiver Brandon Marshall even further. Marshall has scored a touchdown in each of the last five games. In just the last two weeks he has 21 catches for 262 yards and three touchdowns. The Tennessee Titans have given up 25 passing touchdowns this year which ranks near the bottom of the league. It’s safe to say it may be a good idea to tie yourself to the Jets’ pass attack to start your playoff run.
