Fantasy football projections, Week 14: Giants-Dolphins featuring Eli Manning, Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry
We break down the Week 14 matchup between the New York Giants and the Miami Dolphins.
New York Giants
Quarterback Eli Manning had to have X-rays done on his ankle following last week’s loss to the New York Jets. Fortunately they came back negative. He didn’t exactly play well in the game, as he completed just 18 of 34 passes for 297 yards with a touchdown and an interception. This week he gets a friendly matchup against the Dolphins. It has been an overall solid fantasy season for Manning to this point, much better than that of his brother Peyton. He should be able to perform well against Miami given that there is no structural damage to his ankle.
Of course, the top fantasy player on the New York Giants is not the quarterback. It’s wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. He got off to a somewhat slow start this season but has surpassed 100 receiving yards in five straight games. His 29 targets over the last two weeks combined is an impressive number and indicative of how important he is to the Giants’ offensive flow. Beckham should be in for a top-notch day against the Dolphins.
Miami Dolphins
After an absolutely monster performance against the New York Jets in Week 12, wide receiver Jarvis Landry was almost silent in last week’s contest against the Baltimore Ravens. It was shocking to see that he finished the game with just two catches on five targets for five yards. What a turn of events! The problem for Landry was that quarterback Ryan Tannehill only attempted 19 passes in the game, so there wasn’t exactly a lot to go around.
Before fantasy owners sound the alarm bells, however, keep in mind that Tannehill’s conservative approach last week was largely a byproduct of a big game from running back Lamar Miller. Miller carried the ball 20 times against the Ravens and rushed for 113 yards. Doing that against the New York Giants will be a little bit tougher, but Miller is effective in close games from a fantasy perspective, so fantasy owners will still get lots of value from him against the Giants.
