Fantasy football projections, Week 15: Bengals-49ers featuring A.J. Green, Jeremy Hill and Blaine Gabbert
We break down the Week 15 matchup between the Cincinnati Bengals and the San Francisco 49ers.
Cincinnati Bengals
It looks like former college standout A.J. McCarron will get the starting nod for the Bengals against the 49ers. Starter Andy Dalton is likely out this week and next week thanks to a broken thumb. Fantasy owners should be ready to see plenty of the running game and that means plenty of Jeremy Hill this week. Hill should be able to run all over the 49ers, who have nothing to play for other than to evaluate young talent for next year. There’s also no reason for the Bengals to risk any of their top guns with huge plays down the field. Fantasy owners will get a lot of value out of the running game this week.
If it somehow struggles than wide receiver A.J Green will offer some consistent production. Green posted his second straight 100-yard game last week and now has four touchdowns in the last three weeks. He appears to have rounded into top form just in time for the real postseason and right in the midst of the fantasy postseason. Green’s timing could not have been any better. It’s too bad that Dalton won’t be the starting quarterback but perhaps Green is out to prove that doesn’t matter.
San Francisco 49ers
Quarterback Blaine Gabbert has put up serviceable numbers with Colin Kaepernick on the sidelines. He would have done the same thing against the Cleveland Browns last week if not for the fact that he had to absorb an incredible nine sacks. Depending on how sacks are counted in your fantasy league, that could have pretty much nullified anything good that Gabbert managed to do last Sunday. He’s far from a premier quarterback and if you have to start him odds are you’re going to lose this week, but again, if he can avoid getting hit in the pocket, Gabbert might actually put up some numbers.
Wide receiver Anquan Boldin can only hope so. He’s been limited to just 59 receiving yards in the last two weeks combined. Two receptions against Cleveland made it awful tough for Boldin to provide any fantasy value to his owners. It’s obviously not all his fault but at this point in the season it’s hard to trust the veteran receiver. San Francisco 49ers fans can only hope that Colin Kaepernick is back to his 2014 form next year. This season has been a lost cause.
