Fantasy football projections, Week 15: Cardinals-Eagles featuring Carson Palmer, Larry Fitzgerald and DeMarco Murray
We break down the Week 15 matchup between the Arizona Cardinals and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Arizona Cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals struggled to move the football against the Minnesota Vikings inside the red zone last week but it didn’t matter anyway. Quarterback Carson Palmer still led the team to victory and helped clinch a division title. He’s thrown for at least 300 yards and two touchdown passes in five of the last six games. Making it six out of seven against Philadelphia shouldn’t be a problem. The Eagles have been a mess all year long both on offense and defense. Palmer should have a field day in Philadelphia.
So should wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald. His yardage total has dropped in each of the last four games but no team in the NFL has given up more fantasy points to wide receivers than the Eagles. He’s reinvigorated his career in the slot position and the fact is Philadelphia can’t cover anybody in the passing game. Fitzgerald will have added value in PPR leagues this week. He’s the team’s most targeted receiver.
Philadelphia Eagles
There’s a good chance running back DeMarco Murray can’t wait for this season to be over. He’s experienced quite the fall from the mountaintop this year. He has just 603 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the season after being the best running back in the NFL last year. Lucky for him that he is signed to a long-term deal. Unfortunately the offensive genius coach Chip Kelly hasn’t exactly been able to make his system translate at the pro level. Murray just isn’t as valuable as he used to be. Things change quickly in the NFL.
Maybe sophomore receiver Jordan Matthews is hoping for the same thing. He’s loaded with potential and fantasy owners expected him to really start realizing it in his second season, but it just hasn’t happened. Again, it’s not all his fault, but the reality is he just can’t be counted on for fantasy points at this stage in the game. Matthews caught just three passes for 19 yards last week against the Buffalo Bills. He’s a big target was speed but for now it’s better to look towards next season rather than gamble on Matthews in the present moment.
