Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson anticipates a committee approach in the backfield with Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware, according to Herbie Teope of Chiefs Digest.
Charcandrick West, Spencer Ware will form a ‘committee,’ per report; fantasy owners lament
The Chiefs will likely deploy a tandem attack in their backfield on Sunday. We break down the fantasy implications.
West injured his hamstring early on during the Chiefs' blowout win over the San Diego Chargers in Week 11, and Ware took over. Like West did in relief of Jamaal Charles, Ware ran through defenses when given the chance, and totaled 216 yards and three touchdowns over two games. It appears to have earned him a regular spot in the backfield rotation with West, who has been practicing in full, and both running backs will likely form a one-two punch on Sunday against the Oakland Raiders.
Fantasy impact: “Committee” may as well be a four-letter word to fantasy owners, and this appears to be what the Chiefs backfield has deteriorated into. West figures to handle much of the passing duties, while it is conceivable that Ware helps out more in early-down work. As to what percentage of snaps each of them plays, that will likely be determined mostly by game script than anything else.
West would be the preferred option in PPR leagues, while Ware could be considered a middling flex option in PPR and standard formats. Since this is the first week of the committee approach, fantasy owners would be wise to see how carries are distributed before committing to one in their lineup if they can afford that luxury.
