On Saturday, the San Diego Chargers agreed to terms with Philip Rivers on a four-year, $83.25 million extension through 2019. The news was a bit surprising after the team seemed sure that no deal would be reached before the regular season. What was even more surprising was Rivers' comments about his desire to see through his 2015 season before discussing a new contract. Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reported in March that Rivers was hesitant to risk relocating his family if the Chargers move to Los Angeles. Rivers stated:
Philip Rivers contract details: No-trade clause assures fantasy owners QB stays put
Whether it’s the San Diego Chargers or Los Angeles Chargers, Rivers isn’t going anywhere. We take a look at the fantasy implications.

“What we’ve established here with my growing family is hard to recreate. The good thing is I’m not under contract in a year where we’d potentially be in Los Angeles.”
And here we are. Rivers has a fresh contract and will remain a Charger for four more years. In fact, Rivers agreed to a no-trade clause in his new contract. So, whether the Chargers stay put or move on to L.A., Rivers is sticking with the franchise.
Fantasy impact: In terms of fantasy production, Rivers will remain on course as a low-end QB1 for 2015. The only real risk here was the idea of Rivers moving to another team. It’s gotten to a point where we know what to expect from Rivers on a yearly basis. If Rivers took off for another team, there would be a bit of a shake up in the world of fantasy football.
All signs point toward Rivers staying put though. He’s currently being drafted near the 11th round of fantasy drafts, making him a low-risk QB1 investment.
