Buffalo Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor could win the starting job going into Week 1, depending on his performance in Thursday’s preseason game against the Cleveland Browns, according to The NFL Network’s Albert Breer. Fantasy Impact: Coming into the season, it was well-known that Buffalo’s biggest weakness would be the quarterback position. E.J. Manuel looked promising as a rookie in 2013, yet lost the starting job to the now-retired Kyle Orton last year, and Matt Cassel never materialized into a franchise quarterback after his breakout season with the New England Patriots way back in 2008.
That leaves the door wide open for Taylor, who probably has the most upside of the three. While Thursday’s game against the Browns may indeed solidify him as the starter, Coach Rex Ryan did say choosing the starting quarterback was a big decision the team wouldn’t mind waiting on, even if it means heading into the regular season without a final decision. Fantasy owners may want to gamble on Taylor as a pure upside boom-or-bust play, but other than that it’s best to wait until someone in Buffalo proves themselves worthy of being under center on a weekly basis.
