Denver Broncos running back Ronnie Hillman is now being classified as the "1B" running back behind C.J. Anderson, according to beat reporter Mike Klis. This report comes on the heels of what's been an electric preseason for Hillman and a dreary one for backup Montee Ball.
Ronnie Hillman to be ‘1B’ running back behind C.J. Anderson for Broncos, as fantasy owners take note
Per a respected beat writer, Ronnie Hillman will have more of a role than originally thought after having a fantastic summer in Broncos camp. We break down the fantasy implications.

Hillman has logged 120 yards on 16 carries in two preseason games, while Ball has just 30 yards on 12 carries. The “1B” title is one that implies Hillman will be in line for a higher workload than anticipated once camps opened.
Fantasy Spin: However, the question on everyone's mind is how this will impact Anderson's fantasy stock. It's worth noting that new head coach Gary Kubiak has traditionally deployed a balanced attack on offense, and is also no stranger to heavily featuring one running back. There will be lots of carries to go around in a high-scoring offense, so if Anderson gets spelled by Hillman for passing duties every once in awhile, there's no reason to panic. The "1B" declaration is more of an indictment on Ball than Anderson.
Anderson remains a solid choice at his late-first round average draft position, since he has done nothing to suggest he can't handle a big workload, and Hillman remains better suited for a complementary role. Anderson's owners would still be wise to snag Hillman in the later rounds as a handcuff, though Ball's fantasy value is just about non-existent in redraft leagues.
