Fantasy football projections, Week 1: Seahawks-Rams featuring Russell Wilson, Marshawn Lynch and Brian Quick

We break down the Week 1 matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and the St. Louis Rams.

The Week 1 matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and the St. Louis Rams could be a one-sided affair. We’ve got the fantasy projections courtesy of numberFire.

Seattle Seahawks

Now that he’s made it to the Super Bowl in back-to-back years, quarterback Russell Wilson has officially established himself as one of the elite fantasy quarterbacks in the game. Over the last two seasons he’s depended heavily on the running game and managed to scramble in the pocket to create plays with receivers who aren’t exactly superstars. This year he has the added benefit of having tight end Jimmy Graham at his disposal. Wilson should be able to pick apart the Rams with both his feet and his arm in Week 1.

When Wilson doesn’t have the ball, it will be in the hands of Marshawn Lynch. Lynch has logged a ton of mileage over the last few years, and because of that he’s now got Fred Jackson playing behind him. That said, Jackson was cut by the Buffalo Bills recently, so he is definitely not a threat to Lynch as far as touches go. The Rams have been weak against the run in recent years, so Lynch is a must-start as the season gets underway.

St. Louis Rams

For the first time in a long time, the Rams hope to get through an entire season using just one quarterback. This year that quarterback’s name is Nick Foles and not Sam Bradford. Foles doesn’t exactly have a clean track record when it comes to staying injury-free, but he did flourish with the Philadelphia Eagles over the last two years. A fresh start in St. Louis could go a long way to improving the team’s offensive prospects.

Speaking of injuries, wide receiver Brian Quick had his season cut short last year due to a separated shoulder and torn rotator cuff. He’s the closest thing the Rams have to a No. 1 receiver. 2014 was supposed to be his breakout campaign -- while his injury was unfortunate, now is as good a time as any to break out. Quick will be up against a tough Seattle defense on Sunday but somebody has to put up numbers. It might as well be him.
