Fantasy football projections, Week 1: Titans-Buccaneers featuring Bishop Sankey, Doug Martin and Vincent Jackson
We break down the Week 1 matchup between the Tennessee Titans and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Tennessee Titans
After a subpar rookie season and a trade that saw the Titans acquire Terrance West, Bishop Sankey is going to feel some pressure to perform this season. He averaged 3.7 yards per carry last last year, and his highest rushing total for a single game was just 61 yards. Sankey might get the bulk of the carries in Week 1 but it's far from a guarantee. He's going to have to start with a solid effort in Week 1 if he is going to retain his starting job.
When the Titans aren't rushing the ball, rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota will be slinging the rock to wide receiver Kendall Wright. Fantasy owners have likely been taking flyers on Wright for the last couple of years and it's time for them to cash in. He opens the season as the team's No. 1 receiver, and if the Titans can't run the ball, somebody has got to catch it. It might as well be Wright.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
People have known for a long time that wide receiver Vincent Jackson is a star. He's remarkably been able to produce despite quite the list of subpar quarterbacks throwing him the ball in Tampa Bay. The fact that he now has the opportunity to catch passes from a highly touted rookie such as Jameis Winston is a blessing. Jackson will be used frequently against the Titans in Week 1 against a defense that should rank as one of the worst in the league at the end of the season.
Jackson will especially see increased fantasy value in Week 1 if teammate Mike Evans sits out with his hamstring injury. That could also help running back Doug Martin, who has had injury troubles himself since coming into the league a few years ago. The Buccaneers could use Martin a lot against the Titans, a team that gave up the fourth most points to fantasy running backs last year. Martin provides great value heading into Sunday's game.
