Fantasy football projections, Week 1: Vikings-49ers featuring Adrian Peterson, Teddy Bridgewater and Vernon Davis

We break down the Week 1 matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and the San Francisco 49ers.

The Week 1 matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and the San Francisco 49ers features two teams likely heading in opposite directions this season. We've got the fantasy projections courtesy of numberFire.

Minnesota Vikings

After missing the entire 2014 season due to suspension, fans, players and coaches alike have to be ecstatic about the prospect of Adrian Peterson leading the Vikings' rushing attack once again this season. While a year away from the game may lead to a slow start, fantasy owners would be crazy to bench Purple Jesus. He's the only surefire fantasy stud the Vikings have, so roll with him against the 49ers.

While Peterson is the Vikings' most proven commodity, quarterback Teddy Bridgewater should make some good strides this year. He's mobile in the pocket and he gave his team a chance to win even with a mediocre group of receivers last season. The 49ers are sizing up to be in for a tough year at least on paper, so giving Bridgewater a start in Week 1 isn't the craziest thing a fantasy owner could do.

San Francisco 49ers

Tight end Vernon Davis had an off year last year after scoring a career high 13 touchdowns in 2013. For whatever reason, he just wasn't utilized as much last year, but the team has vowed to go to him more in 2015. Anquan Boldin and Torrey Smith are around to compete for receptions with Michael Crabtree, Stevie Johnson and others moving on. However, Davis is worth a look against the Vikings and beyond.

In addition to going through some changes in the team's wide receiving corps, the 49ers have a brand-new starting running back. Frank Gore decided to sign with the Indianapolis Colts in the off-season, leaving Carlos Hyde as the go-to guy. He averaged 4 yards a carry in limited action last year. There's something to be said about betting on potential. The Vikings have had a pretty good defense over the last couple of years so it's not an ideal matchup, but Hyde is still worth a look.
