Update (Monday, 2:21 p.m. EST): Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Derek Carr’s X-rays are negative, but is still waiting on MRI results. He has been diagnosed with a bruised thumb and his availability for Week 2 will be determined by how much his swelling goes down.
Derek Carr could miss extra time, Raiders’ skill positions downgraded in fantasy leagues
The Raiders’ interest in Christian Ponder could mean Derek Carr misses more time. We break down the fantasy implications.

Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr exited the team's Week 1 loss early due to a hand injury, but it looks as though the sophomore signal caller will miss more time.
Though no announcement has officially been made regarding Carr's availability, ESPN's Chris Mortensen interprets the team's interest in bringing back Christian Ponder as a sign that Carr won't suit up for Week 2. Ponder was cut by the Raiders as they trimmed their roster down to 53 men over the summer, but could be suiting up for the silver and black once again in the near future.
Fantasy Spin: Though Carr isn't a start-worthy option in standard formats, backup quarterback Matt McGloin is a downgrade for most of the Raiders' fantasy-relevant skill position players. Michael Crabtree and Amari Cooper will have to make due with what will likely be inefficient quarterback play, while Latavius Murray may not be in line for as many touches if the offense stalls.
McGloin won’t take the Raiders’ offense out of the fantasy football scope entirely, but it shouldn’t be considered encouraging news for those who took stock in them. All fantasy owners can do is hope for Carr’s speedy recovery.
