Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz is officially active for Monday night’s season opener against the Atlanta Falcons.
Zach Ertz active for Week 1 but can’t be trusted in fantasy yet
The Eagles tight end will try to give it a go on Monday night after having groin surgery in training camp. We break down the fantasy implications.

Ertz suffered a torn groin muscle in training camp that required surgery, keeping him out of the entire preseason. He practiced on a limited basis this week and was listed as questionable on the injury report. The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane says that Ertz is “going to give it a try” Monday night, suggesting that he could be on a limited snap count.
A second-round draft pick out of Stanford in 2013, Ertz recorded 58 catches for 702 yards and three touchdowns last season.
Fantasy impact: Ertz had a hard time passing Brent Celek on the depth chart even before his lengthy injury absence. With almost no practice reps or time to develop chemistry with new quarterback Sam Bradford, we don’t anticipate Ertz playing a big role in the early part of the season. He can be safely ignored in all fantasy league formats.
