Fantasy football projections, Week 2: Broncos-Chiefs featuring Peyton Manning, Demaryius Thomas and Travis Kelce
We break down the Week 2 matchup between the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs.
Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos squeaked out a win over the Baltimore Ravens in the team's opening game last week, but fantasy owners weren't exactly jumping for joy. Quarterback Peyton Manning threw for just 175 yards and failed to find the end zone. He also threw an interception, which potentially left him in the negative for fantasy points scored depending on league format. He should do a much better job against the Chiefs, but their defense is nothing to sneeze at.
A better day for Manning likely means a better result for wide receiver Demaryius Thomas. Thomas fared relatively well last week given the circumstances, still managing to catch seven passes for 60 yards. Again, that's not enough output for his fantasy owners, but even with Eric Berry covering him in Week 2, Thomas is still a top option and a guaranteed starter in any fantasy format.
Kansas City Chiefs
Much like the way he started last year off, tight end Travis Kelce ushered in the 2015 season with an eye-opening performance. He caught all six of his targets for 106 receiving yards and two touchdowns, leading the Chiefs to a Week 1 victory over the Houston Texans. Over the last few years the Broncos have been known to give up points to tight ends. Given Denver should score more points this week than they did last week, Kelce will be one of the biggest beneficiaries of a game that could be a shootout on Thursday.
Hopefully a high-scoring game equates to a solid performance from running back Jamaal Charles. Charles is as reliable as they come in fantasy football. Although he only managed 57 rushing yards last week, he totaled 103 yards on 21 touches and still found his way into the end zone for a score. Charles should be money in the bank against the Broncos this week even though Denver did a good job containing Justin Forsett in Week 1.
