Houston Texans quarterback Ryan Mallett will be the starting quarterback when the team takes on the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, according to reporter Drew Dougherty. Mallett played backup to teammate Brian Hoyer in the team’s Week 1 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Ryan Mallett named Texans starting quarterback, fantasy value still slim
Houston Texans quarterback Ryan Mallett will be the team’s starter in Week 2. We break down the fantasy implications.

Fantasy Impact: It didn’t take long for head coach Bill O’Brien to change his tune as far as who should be under center. The fact of the matter is Brian Hoyer looked awful against the Chiefs. He threw for 236 yards, a touchdown and an interception, which isn’t too bad, but he was sacked four times and also lost a fumble.
When Hoyer was eventually pulled from the game, Mallett came in and posted a 110.4 quarterback rating, completing 61.5 percent of his passes for 98 yards and a touchdown. Fantasy owners knew before the start of the season that Houston would be one of the last places they should go looking for a quarterback. Only those in two-quarterback formats or very deep leagues should even consider starting a Texans passer until one of them proves worthy of fantasy relevance.
