The Cleveland Browns announced on Friday that quarterback Johnny Manziel will start vs. the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.
Johnny Manziel will start on Sunday for Browns, fantasy owners in deep leagues
“Johnny Football” will get the start on Sunday in place of injured start Josh McCown. We break down the fantasy implications.
Manziel relieved starter Josh McCown during Week 1's matchup with the New York Jets after the veteran starter suffered a concussion, and completed 13 of 24 passes for 184 yards, one touchdown and one interception. McCown has not yet been cleared from the NFL's concussion protocol, as head coach Mike Pettine stated that McCown would start if health permits.
Fantasy Spin: Aside from a 54-yard touchdown pass to Travis Benjamin in Week 1, Manziel had an inefficient outing and looked skittish in the pocket. In wake of this, there doesn't seem to be a quarterback controversy on the horizon anytime soon, but Manziel can quickly change that with a strong performance on Sunday.
Fantasy owners should be looking elsewhere for quarterback help, but Manziel’s dual-threat ability could make him an intriguing dart-throw in deep, two-quarterback fantasy leagues. In standard formats, neither Manziel nor his receivers are on the fantasy radar.
