Fantasy football projections, Week 2: Patriots-Bills featuring Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski and Sammy Watkins

The Week 2 matchup between the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills features division rivals that could be vying for the number one spot in the AFC East this winter. We’ve got the fantasy projections courtesy of numberFire.

New England Patriots

Fantasy owners who gambled on drafting Tom Brady despite a looming suspension got a big payoff in Week 1. Brady threw for 288 yards and four touchdown passes against the Pittsburgh Steelers, leaving fans to chant “Where is Roger?” Brady will have a tougher time against the Bills in Week 2, a team much improved defensively. That said, he’ll be a must start without a doubt and could find himself with at least a trio of touchdown passes on Sunday by the time the clock strikes zero.

Brady’s performance in Buffalo will likely help pad the stats of his favorite target, Rob Gronkowski. Gronk managed to find the end zone three times against the Steelers, and also recovered a fumble in the game one yard shy of another score. He’s the best tight end in the NFL and he’s scorched the Bills multiple times in his career. Those two facts should leave room for big fantasy totals in Week 2.

Buffalo Bills

The Bills shocked many around the NFL last week, looking solid in an opening week win over the Indianapolis Colts. Running back LeSean McCoy wasn’t able to find the end zone in the game, however. He totaled 87 yards in the game and proved effective at times, but he’ll need to be better against the Patriots. He likely will be given the way DeAngelo Williams ran all over New England in Week 1.

McCoy’s efforts will need to be matched by wide receiver Sammy Watkins. Watkins posted a goose egg against the Colts, failing to catch a single pass on three targets. He’ll be a lot busier against the Patriots in Week 2, a team that no longer owns the services of Darrelle Revis or Aqib Talib in its secondary unit. Fantasy owners must start Watkins in this division matchup.
