Fantasy football projections, Week 2: Bengals-Chargers featuring Tyler Eifert, Jeremy Hill and Keenan Allen
We break down the Week 2 matchup between the Cincinnati Bengals and San Diego Chargers.
Cincinnati Bengals
Coming into 2015, tight end Tyler Eifert had only two touchdowns in his NFL career. Last week against the Oakland Raiders, he went off for nine catches, 104 yards and two scores. He was pegged as a potential breakout star prior to the beginning of the season, and it seems fantasy experts who guessed that may have hit the nail right on the head. Eifert should keep busy against the Chargers in Week 2. While it will be tough to repeat his opening day performance, fantasy owners would be crazy not to put him in the lineup.
Another must start player in the Bengals' offense is running back Jeremy Hill. Hill ran for just 63 yards last week but he did manage to find the end zone on two occasions. Last season he started the year in a timeshare with teammate Giovani Bernard, but this year it's clear he's the workhorse. Hill has to be in starting lineups on Sunday without a doubt.
San Diego Chargers
The Chargers appeared hell bent to get wide receiver Keenan Allen the ball in Week 1, and it resulted in a huge payoff for fantasy owners. Allen didn't score a touchdown in the game, but he did catch 15 out of 17 targets for 166 receiving yards. He obviously won't get that kind of volume every week, but with tight end Antonio Gates serving a suspension and Ladarius Green playing hurt, Allen should be a busy man against the Bengals.
Every pass Allen catches will come from quarterback Philip Rivers. Fantasy owners can forgive Rivers for throwing two interceptions last week, because he also threw for 404 yards and two touchdowns. The Chargers couldn't get much of a running game going in the contest, and it looks like Melvin Gordon and Danny Woodhead may be better served in contributing through the air anyway. Rivers is an elite fantasy option and he should put up some solid numbers in Week 2.
