Fantasy football projections, Week 2: Buccaneers-Saints featuring Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Drew Brees and Mark Ingram
We break down the Week 2 matchup between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New Orleans Saints.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
As good as the Tennessee Titans’ Marcus Mariota looked in Week 1, his counterpart on the other side of the football was not even close. Jameis Winston threw for 210 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown. He was also sacked four times in the game. Winston will need to be better against New Orleans, a team that can light up the scoreboard even with former tight end Jimmy Graham now in Seattle. For now, fantasy owners are better off leaving Winston on the waiver wire until he proves himself.
He will probably have to throw to tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins quite frequently in Week 2. The sophomore tight end was the lone bright spot for the Buccaneers last week, catching five passes for 110 yards and two scores. Wide receiver Mike Evans was listed as doubtful for the game a few days ago, so whether he plays or not, Seferian-Jenkins will probably be busy on Sunday.
New Orleans Saints
Quarterback Drew Brees threw just one touchdown against the Arizona Cardinals last week, but the 355 passing yards he had to go with that saved his fantasy day. Brees has been a stud in the fantasy world for years and, no matter what changes in front of him, he’ll continue to be until he’s too old to throw the ball. He should be able to pick apart the Buccaneers given that they got scorched by a rookie last week. Fantasy owners should definitely start Brees in Week 2.
It looks like one of his not-so-new favorite passing targets this year is going to be running back Mark Ingram. Ingram only ran for 24 yards last week but proved that he will provide incredible value in PPR leagues. He caught eight passes for 98 yards against the Cardinals. Ingram is a must start rusher going forward, even if he’s earning his living exhibiting the traits of a wide receiver.
