Fantasy football projections, Week 2: 49ers-Steelers featuring Carlos Hyde, Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown
We break down the Week 2 matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
San Francisco 49ers
After just one week of regular season NFL football, it’s obvious the 49ers have found their replacement for running back Frank Gore. His name is Carlos Hyde. Hyde torched the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football to the tune of 168 rushing yards and two touchdowns. With Reggie Bush’s health uncertain thanks to a calf injury suffered in the same game, Hyde should be money in the bank against the Steelers. Every fantasy owner in football should have this guy in the lineup on Sunday.
Hyde will be aided by tight end Vernon Davis in the passing game. Davis may not be the elite fantasy option he once was anymore, but he should be able to put up numbers against Pittsburgh, a team dealing with tons of injuries on the defensive side of the football. Davis was targeted six times against the Vikings and should see that number increase in Week 2.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers were able to keep the ball moving down the field against the New England Patriots last week. The problem was they weren’t able to find the end zone consistently until late in the game. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will have to be better against San Francisco. Although he threw for 351 passing yards last week, Big Ben only managed a single touchdown to go with an interception.
If he does do better against the 49ers, it likely means another big day for wide receiver Antonio Brown. Brown caught nine passes for 133 yards and a touchdown against the Patriots last week. He made a handful of incredible catches and proved that he’s still going to be a top receiver this season. Another 100-yard game with at least five catches and a touchdown seems automatic for the dynamic pass catcher.
