Fantasy football projections, Week 2: Rams-Washington featuring Nick Foles, Jared Cook and Pierre Garcon
We break down the Week 2 matchup between the St. Louis Rams and Washington.
St. Louis Rams
The Rams upset the defending NFC champion Seattle Seahawks last week. Quarterback Nick Foles did his part throwing for 297 yards and a touchdown. He got some help from the special teams unit but overall looked solid in his performance. Washington represents a step down defensively, so there’s no reason Foles shouldn’t continue to impress going forward.
That could mean steady fantasy production from tight end Jared Cook. Cook has been on the fantasy radar since he first broke into the NFL with the Tennessee Titans. In his time with St. Louis, he’s had to deal with an unsteady situation at quarterback two years in a row. Now that situation has changed and Cook was targeted regularly in his first game with Foles under center. That should continue against Washington in Week 2.
Washington
Wide receiver DeSean Jackson is expected to be out for at least three weeks and probably a lot longer with a hamstring injury, which means Washington’s new number one receiver is Pierre Garçon. Garçon caught six passes for 74 yards last week and should thrive given that he will get all of the targets he can possibly handle on Sunday.
Any pass that doesn’t go his way will likely fall into the hands of tight end Jordan Reed. Reed caught seven passes for 63 yards and a touchdown against the Miami Dolphins to open the season, and he proved he could be a solid contributor last year. There’s no reason his contributions won’t continue moving forward. Start him if you have him. Washington is clearly going to look to get him the ball.
