Fantasy football projections, Week 2: Dolphins-Jaguars featuring Ryan Tannehill, Jarvis Landry and T.J. Yeldon
We break down the Week 2 matchup between the Miami Dolphins and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Miami Dolphins
Ryan Tannehill isn’t the type of quarterback who’s going to throw up monster numbers from a fantasy perspective, but he can be steady. He proved that in the team’s opening game against Washington last week. Tannehill threw for 226 yards and a touchdown and did not throw an interception. A similar performance against the Jaguars will likely allow the Dolphins to win the game. That makes Tannehill a borderline starter in deep leagues this week.
Tannehill’s need to lead the charge in the passing game will likely mean a lot of work for wide receiver Jarvis Landry. Landry returned a punt 74 yards for a touchdown in Washington last week and nobody touched him on the way to the end zone. He also caught eight out of 12 targets in the contest. Landry is going to be a PPR superstar this season, so he definitely deserves an opportunity to start against the Jaguars.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Rookie running back T.J. Yeldon had a pretty good NFL debut last week, putting together 67 yards on 15 touches. Although he did not find the end zone, it’s clear that he’s going to get every opportunity to lead the Jaguars’ backfield this season. There isn’t much to compete with behind him, so fantasy owners should keep him on the roster going forward. It might be tough to count on him against the Dolphins for anything significant, but at the same time he’s eventually going to have a breakthrough game. There’s no reason it can’t be early on in the season.
Yeldon will need a little help from wide receiver Allen Robinson. Robinson caught just one pass in last week’s game against the Carolina Panthers. He was targeted six times in the contest and will need to do considerably better if fantasy owners are to trust the concept of starting him weekly. He’ll be in tough against the Dolphins, but Robinson does have the size and the talent to make an impact. His upside is still there and that warrants starting him in deeper leagues.
