Fantasy football projections, Week 2: Cowboys-Eagles featuring Tony Romo, Cole Beasley and DeMarco Murray
We break down the Week 2 matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles.
Dallas Cowboys
It looks like wide receiver Dez Bryant could be out up to eight weeks thanks to a broken foot suffered last week. That means wide receiver Cole Beasley should see a lot more targets going forward. While he will play the slot and add a different dimension to the Cowboys' passing game from Bryant, Beasley should be able to rack up targets. That makes him a big asset in PPR leagues. Owners lucky enough to snatch him off the waiver wire will be happy with the results he produces against the Eagles and beyond.
Bryant's absence will also likely change the way quarterback Tony Romo gets his fantasy points. He'll not only look to Beasley -- eammate Devin Street should also see some action on the outside. Romo will also probably throw more screen passes and check down-style nuggets to running backs. No matter how he goes about things, Romo should be able to rack up the completions, yardage totals and hopefully touchdowns against the Eagles in Week 2.
Philadelphia Eagles
A game at the Georgia Dome against the Atlanta Falcons last week didn't exactly produce the start that quarterback Sam Bradford had hoped for to kick off his Eagles career. That said, his out-of-rhythm performance didn't harm wide receiver Jordan Matthews. Matthews still managed to catch 10 passes in the game for 102 yards. At the same time, it looks like Nelson Agholor is going to take a while to come around after a solid preseason. That makes Matthews the go-to guy in Philadelphia, even with tight end Zach Ertz acting as a safety valve and reliable target too. Start Matthews against the Cowboys if you have him.
Another player worth starting in the Eagles' lineup is running back DeMarco Murray, who will face his former team for the first time since signing with Philly in the offseason. Murray's Eagles debut didn't exactly go smoothly -- he managed just 20 total yards on 12 touches. While a pair of touchdowns did save his fantasy day, the 2014 rushing champion will have to step his game up to justify his preseason draft position going forward.
