Fantasy football projections, Week 2: Seahawks-Packers featuring Russell Wilson, Jimmy Graham and Aaron Rodgers
We break down the Week 2 matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and the Green Bay Packers.
Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks fell in an upset loss last week to the St. Louis Rams. Part of the reason for that was the underwhelming performance by quarterback Russell Wilson. He threw for just 251 yards coupled with one touchdown and one interception and, more importantly, he was sacked six times in the game. Green Bay is one of the top contenders for the Super Bowl this year, so Wilson will have to find a way to evade his opponents’ defense and get his team its first win of the season.
Hopefully tight end Jimmy Graham can help give Wilson a target down the field. Graham caught six passes for 51 yards and a touchdown in his Seahawks debut. How the team will use him going forward is one of the most intriguing question marks in the NFL this season, but it’s obvious he’ll be a top target in the passing game. Especially given the team’s top receiver is Doug Baldwin, a serviceable talent who at the same time has limited room for growth given he’s been in the league for a while.
Green Bay Packers
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers didn’t have to do much to top the Chicago Bears last week. He only completed 18 passes in the contest for 189 yards, but three of his completions went for touchdowns. He didn’t turn the ball over and also chipped in 35 yards rushing. Rodgers nearly led the Packers to a playoff victory in Seattle last year, so he has plenty of reason to remind the Seahawks how good he is this Sunday night.
If the Packers are to avenge last year’s postseason defeat, Rodgers will likely look to wide receiver James Jones in the end zone. Jones was only targeted four times last week, but caught every pass for 51 yards and a pair of scores. Given the Packers are dealing with injuries and Jones has previous experience playing with Rodgers, he’s seeing reignited interest from fantasy owners. He will be in tough against Seattle, but Jones’ size will make him a reliable red zone target no matter who is covering him.
