Fantasy football projections, Week 2: Jets-Colts featuring Chris Ivory, Andrew Luck and Donte Moncrief
We break down the Week 2 matchup between the New York Jets and the Indianapolis Colts.
New York Jets
The Jets have a bit more fire power on offense this year and at least in Week 1, running back Chris Ivory proved to be a key part of that. He carried the ball 20 times for 91 yards and two touchdowns against the Cleveland Browns. He should be able to run all over the Colts in Week 2, a team that’s been suspect against the run for years. Fantasy owners should definitely start Ivory going forward and find out firsthand whether his season-opening performance was a fluke or not.
If and when the Jets are having troubles finding holes on the ground, wide receiver Brandon Marshall should be able to penetrate through the air. He caught six passes for 62 yards and a touchdown in his first game in the green and white. Even at his advanced age, Marshall can still get the job done. He continues to be an asset for fantasy owners and there’s no reason why that should change against Indianapolis.
Indianapolis Colts
While the Buffalo Bills did a great job topping the Colts last week, quarterback Andrew Luck still managed to put up his share of fantasy points. He completed 26 passes for 243 yards and two touchdowns and unfortunately tossed a pair of interceptions. He should have a somewhat easier time against the Jets. New York will no doubt do a good job defensively but the Jets are decided underdogs whose defense will likely be on the field a lot. It’s only a matter of time before the secondary unit gets tired and Luck starts throwing touchdowns on Monday night.
There’s a good chance at least one of those touchdowns will land in the hands of wide receiver Donte Moncrief. Moncrief is normally the third receiver on the team’s depth chart, but with teammate Andre Johnson dealing with an injury, Moncrief is likely to see added looks against the Jets. He was targeted 11 times last week and scored a touchdown. His ceiling is high. He is worth a gamble in deeper leagues and should start immediately.
