It always seems unfair, at least from this seat, that when a team that played the previous Monday has to go up against a team with extra rest, be it after a bye or after a Thursday game. That's the situation this week, as the 1-0 San Francisco 49ers played the latter of the two Monday night games. The 49ers will now travel across the country to face an 0-1 Pittsburgh Steelers team that played on Thursday in Week 1, and thus has had extra time between games.
Fantasy football advice, Week 2: Who to start/sit for 49ers vs. Steelers
Fresh off a surprisingly dominant Week 1 win, the 49ers travel across the country to face the Steelers in Week 2.
These two teams come into the Week 2 matchup largely healthy. The 49ers are likely going to be without running back Reggie Bush after he suffered a calf injury in Week 1, but that's the only fantasy relevant player on the injury report for either team.
The Steelers will host Sunday’s game between the two teams, scheduled for 1 p.m. ET. Here’s a look at the fantasy names to consider:
49ERS
Start 'em: With the possible exception of Rob Gronkowski, no one had a better Week 1 than Carlos Hyde, and it isn't a fluke. He's an every week RB1. ... Phil Dawson remains a good kicker, and going against a spotty defense could give him plenty of chances.
Start 'em?: The 49ers never really got their passing game going in Week 1, which limited Anquan Boldin. He'll still get plenty of targets, making him a low-end flex option. ... The 49ers' defense played better than expected in Week 1, but against a strong Pittsburgh offense, you'd have to really be trolling deep to invest.
Sit 'em: There's usually a high floor for Colin Kaepernick because of his legs, but he hasn't shown the ceiling we once thought he had. Until he does, he's just a bench play with hope. ... That's exactly one catch for Torrey Smith in Week 1. Those will happen more times this season. ... We saw some signs of life from Vernon Davis, but he has work to do to get back in fantasy's good graces.
STEELERS
Start 'em: Filling in for Le'Veon Bell, DeAngelo Williams surprised and impressed in Week 1. He looks like a low-end RB2 this week, with Bell slated to return for Week 3. ... Antonio Brown is an obvious must-start, but thanks for visiting.
Start 'em?: Most of Ben Roethlisberger's good numbers in Week 1 came in garbage time. If they don't have to frantically throw to try to catch up, will his numbers fall? He's probably a fantasy starter, but not a sure thing. ... Unspectacular And Barely Helpful: The Heath Miller Story.
Sit 'em: There was nothing special about Markus Wheaton in Week 1. He's just roster filler, and even that only until Martavis Bryant makes his return. ... Week 1 was miserable for Josh Scobee, who is a better kicker than he looked, but who isn't a fantasy starter. ... The Steelers' defense is quite bad.
SUMMARY
Start in every league: Carlos Hyde, Phil Dawson, DeAngelo Williams, Antonio Brown
Start if you’re desperate: Anquan Boldin, San Francisco defense, Ben Roethlisberger, Heath Miller
Bench: Colin Kaepernick, Torrey Smith, Vernon Davis, Markus Wheaton, Josh Scobee, Pittsburgh defense
