The Oakland Raiders lost to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1, in a game they never really contended. The Baltimore Ravens lost to the Denver Broncos the same day, in a close game they were in until the end. Sunday, the two 0-1 teams play each other looking for their first wins of the season.
Fantasy football advice, Week 2: Who to start/sit for Ravens vs. Raiders
Two 0-1 teams on the opposite ends of the perceived-quality spectrum face off Sunday looking for their first wins.
The Ravens will be without wide receiver Breshad Perriman for the second straight week as the rookie deals with a knee injury. The team should, however, have running backs Justin Forsett (shoulder) and Lorenzo Taliaferro (knee) both on the field. On the Oakland side, the big question is quarterback Derek Carr, who left Week 1 with a hand injury but is probable for Sunday's game.
The Raiders will host the Ravens Sunday, with the game scheduled for 4:05 p.m. ET. Let’s take a look at the fantasy names to consider:
RAVENS
Start 'em: After a disappointing Week 1 against a strong Denver defense, Justin Forsett should get back to the good against Oakland. ... Justin Tucker remains a super-strong fantasy kicking option. ... Even with Terrell Suggs done for the season, the Ravens' defense is very strong, even before considering the poor offensive opponent.
Start 'em?: In what should be a nice matchup, Joe Flacco makes for a reasonable QB2, but lacks QB1 upside. ... You'd have liked better numbers for Steve Smith to start the season, but he looks better for Week 2.
Sit 'em: As long as Forsett is the team's No. 1 running back, Lorenzo Taliaferro is nothing but a handcuff for fantasy. ... Until Breshad Perriman returns (if even then), there isn't another pass-catcher in Baltimore worth a fantasy look. That means no Marlon Brown, no Kamar Aiken, no Crockett Gillmore, no Maxx Williams.
RAIDERS
Start 'em?: With the Raiders falling behind early in Week 1, Latavius Murray couldn't get going, but he should be better going forward. ... Amari Cooper didn't blow anyone away in Week 1, but he still has extreme upside and should make for a strong flex play.
Sit 'em: There are enough things to doubt about Derek Carr in fantasy even before his injury. ... There probably won't be enough targets in Oakland early for Michael Crabtree or Mychal Rivera to offer much for fantasy. ... Sebastian Janikowski will kick on the fringes of fantasy relevance for forever. ... The Raiders' defense is pretty much always a stay-away.
SUMMARY
Start in every league: Justin Forsett, Justin Tucker, Baltimore defense
Start if you're desperate: Joe Flacco, Steve Smith, Latavius Murray, Amari Cooper
Bench: Lorenzo Taliaferro, Marlon Brown, Kamar Aiken, Crockett Gillmore, Maxx Williams, Derek Carr, Michael Crabtree, Mychal Rivera, Sebastian Janikowski, Oakland defense
