The Philadelphia Eagles lost a game in Week 1 they had every chance of winning, with a missed field goal costing them a victory. On the flip side, the Dallas Cowboys won a game in Week 1 they had every chance of losing, with a brain shutdown on the part of the New York Giants giving Dallas a win. Sunday, the two play one another, restarting a heated NFC East rivalry.
Fantasy football advice, Week 2: Who to start/sit for Cowboys vs. Eagles
A heated NFC East rivalry plays its first 2015 game against one another.
The Cowboys will be without wide receiver Dez Bryant for Week 2 and the foreseeable future after he broke his foot in Week 1. Quarterback Tony Romo also appeared on the week's injury report, but he's not at any risk of missing the game. The Eagles, meanwhile, had an almost totally clear injury report, with no fantasy-relevant players appearing.
Dallas travels to Philadelphia for the first of (at least) two games between the teams this season, with Sunday’s tilt scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET. Here’s a look at the fantasy names to consider:
COWBOYS
Start 'em: Even without Dez Bryant, Tony Romo makes for a strong fantasy start against an Eagles team that let Matt Ryan and Julio Jones connect regularly in Week 1. ... Jason Witten was a must-start tight end even before his co-target leader got hurt. ... Dan Bailey is still a strong fantasy kicker.
Start 'em?: The Dallas running game was billed as something of a committee entering Week 1, but Joseph Randle was really the workhorse, and should continue to be. He's a fine flex play. ... The Cowboys' lack of a strong No. 2 receiver really shows now, with Terrance Williams becoming the de facto No. 1 but lacking the pedigree of most teams' No. 2.
Sit 'em: With Randle taking over lead back duties, Darren McFadden doesn't offer a lot of upside. Lance Dunbar probably doesn't either, but Bryant's absence and Dunbar's pass-catching ability combine to make him at least interesting for PPR leagues. ... Cole Beasley and Devin Street both see their stocks rise without Bryant on the field, but wait to see how the usage breaks down before running either out there in fantasy. ... Gavin Escobar will see a boost without Bryant, but he's not in standard-league consideration. ... The Cowboys' defense is underrated, and will have moments this year, but against a Chip Kelly offense it's better to stay away.
EAGLES
Start 'em: Despite an awful yardage day in Week 1, DeMarco Murray scored two touchdowns, and will get more yards going forward, especially Sunday against his former team. ... Jordan Matthews had a monster yardage day in Week 1, and will continue to be a must-start receiver. ... Even with his missed Week 1 field goal, Cody Parkey looks strong. ... The Cowboys have plenty of offensive weapons, but the absence of Dez Bryant makes the Eagles' defense pretty appealing.
Start 'em?: Not many players get as regularly over-ranked as Zach Ertz, who has had maybe three games that really impress you for fantasy in his three seasons. He's a fine TE2, but not a must-start by any means.
Sit 'em: I wouldn't go anywhere near Sam Bradford in Week 2, after he looked rough in Week 1 and had to go for X-rays during the week. I might regret it, but I prefer the upside of so many other guys. ... With Murray still the odds-on favorite to carry the load, it's hard to trust Ryan Mathews, and Darren Sproles will likely fall off as well, though he carries PPR value. ... A rookie like Nelson Agholor is the kind of player you keep benched until he has a big game. It means you'll miss out on a big performance, but you'll also avoid his growing pains.
