Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins is not in danger of losing his starting job, according to an ESPN report.
Kirk Cousins will remain Washington’s starter, but shouldn’t start for fantasy owners
After a forgettable outing on Thursday night, head coach Jay Gruden maintained that Kirk Cousins will remain the team’s starter. We break down the fantasy implications.
Cousins turned in a dismal outing on Thursday night, despite a gaudy stat sheet that boasted 315 passing yards and a touchdown. It’s one of the many cases where there is a disconnect between the numbers and the ever important “eyeball test,” and Cousins didn’t pass the latter.
Jay Gruden has since endorsed Cousins as the starter, noting that the team around him needs to get better, as well as his signal caller.
Fantasy impact: If Cousins is passing for over 300 yards and attempting 49 passes in a game, things probably aren’t going well for Washington. That said, things may not go well for Washington often this season if Cousins keeps digging himself into holes by turning the ball over.
Because of the depth at the position, Cousins doesn't deserve fantasy consideration, especially with Washington identifying as a run-first team with the two-headed monster of Alfred Morris and Matt Jones in the backfield. Cousins remains a low-end QB2 at best.
