Fantasy football projections, Week 3: Falcons-Cowboys featuring Matt Ryan, Julio Jones and Terrance Williams
We break down the Week 3 matchup between the Atlanta Falcons and the Dallas Cowboys.
Atlanta Falcons
The NFC South-leading Falcons put together a solid fourth quarter in erasing a 10-point deficit against the New York Giants last week. A big reason for that was wide receiver Julio Jones, who caught 13 of 15 targets for 135 receiving yards and put up monster numbers for the second week in a row. Not only did Jones please his fantasy owners, he made an incredible play on a bad throw from quarterback Matt Ryan that should've been an interception, but instead went on the scoreboard as a reception. Jones is absolutely unstoppable.
Speaking of Matt Ryan, he made the most of the help he got from Jones, finishing the contest with 363 passing yards and one touchdown. The best news of the day was the fact he didn’t throw an interception, something that was a problem at times last year. Ryan should be all over the Cowboys given that their offense is depleted and their defense will likely be on the field a lot on Sunday.
Dallas Cowboys
What a difference two weeks can make. While the Cowboys find themselves leading the NFC East, it hasn't come without a price. Both receiver Dez Bryant and quarterback Tony Romo are expected to be out for the immediate future, which means Terrance Williams is now the club's best fantasy option. He proved that last week against the Philadelphia Eagles, catching four passes for 84 yards and a touchdown. Williams will no doubt be blanketed by an improved Falcons defense, but a steady stream of targets should offset that in Week 3.
When Williams can’t get open, it likely means the ball is headed in the direction of teammate Cole Beasley. Beasley was one of the most popular waiver wire additions in fantasy leagues last week, and although he plays the slot and not the outside, he should be a popular target this week. That said, catching only four passes for 14 yards against the Eagles is an underwhelming stat line, so Beasley should only draw the start in deeper leagues on the rosters of fantasy owners who can afford to take a gamble.
