Fantasy football projections, Week 3: Colts-Titans featuring Andrew Luck, Donte Moncrief and Marcus Mariota
We break down the Week 3 matchup between the Indianapolis Colts and the Tennessee Titans.
Indianapolis Colts
Beginning the season with the Buffalo Bills and the New York Jets on the schedule, few would have predicted that the Colts would be 0-2, but that's exactly where the team finds itself. Quarterback Andrew Luck was left searching for answers against the Jets on Monday Night Football. He threw for just 250 yards and one touchdown. He also tossed three interceptions and is now the owner of the worst quarterback rating in the league. Fantasy owners are hoping he can bounce back in Tennessee. If he doesn't, the alarm bells will really start sounding.
If there is a lone bright spot in the Colts offense right now it's wide receiver Donte Moncrief. Moncrief has been targeted 19 times through two games and has managed to catch 13 of those targets for team-leading 168 yards and two touchdowns. The Titans have actually been above average when it comes to limiting fantasy points at the wide receiver position so far this season. That said, with teammate T.Y. Hilton playing through a knee injury and Andre Johnson not doing much, Moncrief is worth starting right now.
Tennessee Titans
While quarterback Marcus Mariota did indeed come back down to earth against the Cleveland Browns last week, he still put up decent numbers. 257 passing yards and two touchdowns is a solid stat line for the second game of your NFL career. The problem for Mariota against the Browns was that he fumbled the ball three times. Look for that problem to be corrected against the Colts. Mariota should be in for decent numbers in Week 3. Indy hasn't exactly shut anybody down so far this season.
If Mariota and the Titans are to get back on the winning track on Sunday, he'll need to find his best wide receiver more often. Kendall Wright has only been targeted eight times through two games so far, and last week that resulted in just 17 receiving yards. He won't exactly be facing Joe Haden in Week 3, so Wright will probably have a better fantasy day against the Colts. Owners should consider starting him in deeper leagues.
