Fantasy football projections, Week 3: Eagles-Jets featuring Sam Bradford, DeMarco Murray and Brandon Marshall
We break down the Week 3 matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Jets.
Philadelphia Eagles
Coming into his first season with the Eagles, quarterback Sam Bradford opted not to sign a contract extension with the team, hoping that he would earn himself a bigger payday by having a big year. So far that's looking like a bad gamble. Fantasy owners probably aren't happy either. Bradford has four interceptions and just two touchdown passes through two games this season. Given the Jets picked off the Indianapolis Colts' Andrew Luck three times last week, it may be a good idea to bench Bradford this time around.
Those that do start him can only hope that running back DeMarco Murray picks it up on the ground as well. Perhaps that would create a little bit of breathing room for Bradford. Murray has been fortunate enough to find the end zone in each of his first two games with the Eagles, but the fact that he has a combined 11 rushing yards in those games is definitely alarming. The Jets certainly pose a difficult matchup defensively, but fantasy owners can still hang onto hope that last year's leading rusher will turn things around. It is after all still early in the season.
New York Jets
So far moving to a team where quarterbacks and passing offenses have gone to die over the last number of years hasn’t had much of an effect on wide receiver Brandon Marshall. Against the Colts last week, he caught seven passes for 101 yards and a touchdown. It’s clear that even as he ages and becomes more of a journeyman player in the NFL, Marshall can still find ways to produce. He should get plenty of opportunities against the Eagles, which makes him a candidate for a starting role in lineups on Sunday.
Along the ground, the engine that drives the Jets’ offense is running back Chris Ivory. Ivory only managed 57 yards against the Colts in Week 2. At the same time, it is worth noting that the Eagles have given up at least 100 yards on the ground in each of the first two games of the season. Given the way Philadelphia has played lately, there is a chance Ivory could rack up yardage if the Jets end up spending the second half trying to kill the clock.
