Fantasy football projections, Week 3: Chiefs-Packers featuring Jamaal Charles, Aaron Rodgers and Randall Cobb
We break down the Week 3 matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Green Bay Packers.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs let one slip away at Arrowhead Stadium last week against the Denver Broncos thanks to a turnover in the last minute of the game. Running back Jamaal Charles fumbled the football and the rest was history. He’ll need to be in top form against the Packers, a team looking like a Super Bowl contender right out of the gate. The Packers are solid on both sides of the football but Charles is too talented to be held down. He’ll be in starting lineups across all fantasy leagues and undoubtedly be a big part of the Chiefs’ game plan on Monday.
Tight end Travis Kelce will also be a key part of the team’s offense if the Chiefs hope to walk out of Lambeau Field with a victory. Kelce was limited to just four catches for 58 yards last week. He should be able to get open against the Packers as Alex Smith’s top option. The Packers won’t mind giving up some points in the second half should they stake themselves to an early lead once again. All of those points will count for Kelce no matter what the result of the game is.
Green Bay Packers
Going into Week 3, the Packers look like the same old team they’ve been since Aaron Rodgers became the starting quarterback. He picked apart the Seattle Seahawks last week and he did the same thing two weeks ago against the Chicago Bears. The Chiefs demonstrated that they could at least contain Peyton Manning last week, but unlike Manning, Rodgers is still in his prime. Eddie Lacy might be out with an injury, but it won’t affect the quarterback’s production.
Wide receiver Randall Cobb shouldn’t have any issues, either. He’ll be blanketed by Eric Berry in some capacity on Monday, but he managed eight catches and 116 receiving yards against Richard Sherman and the Seahawks last week. That should give fantasy owners enough confidence to roll with him. Cobb is a matchup proof wide receiver. That’s a rare commodity in fantasy football and his owners owe it to themselves to take full advantage of that every week.
