When Josh Robinson was drafted by the Colts in the sixth round of the 2015 NFL Draft, it was expected he would compete with Vick Ballard and Dan Herron for a roster spot. Fast forward to September, and Robinson is likely going to be the running back supporting Frank Gore to start the 2015 season.
Josh Robinson primed to back up Frank Gore, Colts RB is low-risk fantasy handcuff
Josh Robinson is the next man up behind Frank Gore in Indianapolis. We take a look at the fantasy implications.

Ballard simply can’t stay healthy, and Herron was surprisingly cut from the team after Herron delivered the bulk of his 524 all-purpose yards late in the 2014 season for the Colts. Herron is dealing with a sprained AC join, a minor injury but one that was enough to create a sense of urgency for the Colts when assembling their 53-man roster.
Robinson doesn't have any measurable or college stats that jump out, but he should see plenty of opportunity as the team's RB2, provided he keeps the job. Even at 32 years old, Gore seems to continue playing at a high level. Still, it's likely the Colts won't lean as heavily on him as the San Francisco 49ers did. Robinson was on concussion protocol but was cleared on Monday. He'll practice this week and likely suit up for his NFL debut when the Colts take on the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
Fantasy impact: Robinson should relieve Gore enough on Sunday to give us a better idea on what he’s capable of. He’ll likely be used on third downs and see some targets out of the backfield. As of now, he’s a handcuff for Frank Gore owners and a late-round flier for anyone looking to invest in a backup running back on a high-octane offense.
