Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reiterated on the team’s website Monday that Tony Romo is their No. 1 quarterback, while discussing the status of the 14th-year veteran’s return, according to Cowboys beat writer David Helman. Romo will undergo an MRI Monday and the team is expecting good news about the QB’s fractured vertebrae from the procedure. The four-time Pro Bowler has been sidelined roughly six weeks with the broken back. Romo seems to be recovering well, as the QB was spotted throwing passes in pregame warmups the past few weeks.

The Cowboys have relied on rookie Dak Prescott to run the offense in Romo’s absence. Prescott has led Dallas to a 4-1 start and has thrown over 1,200 yards and four touchdowns in the first five weeks of the season. Though Jones is committed to Romo as the starter once healthy, he did say “we’re going to have the luxury of being able to, I think, see them both,” while discussing the two quarterbacks on the team’s website. Romo is projected to return Week 8 against Philadelphia.
Fantasy Impact: Romo’s return has the biggest potential impact on Dak Prescott fantasy owners. Prescott has been a very solid QB2 option in fantasy this season, but the Cowboys believe the offense will be more dynamic under Romo. There are still at least three weeks for this controversy to play itself out. Prescott owners should continue to start him in good matchups, but may want to snatch up Romo now if he is still available.
