Fantasy football projections, Week 6: 49ers-Bills featuring Colin Kaepernick, Carlos Hyde, LeSean McCoy, more

The Week 6 matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and the Buffalo Bills features two teams looking to prove they belong. We’ve got the fantasy projections courtesy of numberFire.

For the first time all season long, quarterback Colin Kaepernick is going to be in the news for his play on the field. He’s been named the starter for Week 6. Kaepernick gets to face a solid Bills defense. It’ll be a tough task on the road but he does have a scrambling ability that most quarterbacks in the NFL don’t possess.

Kaepernick will gain some popularity on the waiver wire this week in deeper leagues because many believe that he still has a lot of upside. Sunday’s game represents his first opportunity in a while to prove just that. The bad news is, only one team gives up fewer fantasy points to quarterbacks than Buffalo. A big week from Kaepernick certainly isn’t expected, but still the potential is there.

More than likely Kaepernick’s ability to scramble will help open up the ground game for running back Carlos Hyde even more. Hyde is quietly putting together a career year. He has six touchdowns on the year, including four in the last three games. It’s encouraging to see him doing well while playing on a bad team.

He won’t get a ton of room to run until the 49ers prove that their passing game can get the ball down the field consistently. Still, Hyde can run between the tackles with the best of them. He should find a way to earn his keep in Buffalo.

Running back LeSean McCoy is riding quite a hot streak right now. He has 330 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns over the last three weeks combined. It appears he might just be back in old form. It certainly helps that nobody is competing with him for carries right now. He was held out of the end zone against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 5 but still rushed for 150 yards.

San Francisco is mediocre against the run and if the Bills want to keep on winning, McCoy will surely be a big part of the game plan moving forward. He should go far and above his projections against the 49ers.

Perhaps the only other Bills player worth considering in fantasy lineups is wide receiver Robert Woods. He was a popular pickup two weeks ago when it was announced that teammate Sammy Watkins would be out for an extended period with a foot injury. The Rams, however, kept Woods in check. He caught just two passes for 26 yards in the game.

Woods isn’t going to light up the fantasy world with any monster numbers in the box score, but he is valuable in PPR formats. San Francisco isn’t nearly as threatening defensively as Los Angeles. Woods could be in for seven catches and 85 yards, which would be a good return on investment for fantasy owners.
