Fantasy football projections, Week 6: Cowboys-Packers featuring Ezekiel Elliott, Aaron Rodgers, Randall Cobb, more

The Week 6 matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers features two teams looking to continue winning streaks. We’ve got the fantasy projections courtesy of numberFire.

Ezekiel Elliott has arrived. At this point, the fantasy community is perfectly justified in ranking him among the best running backs in the NFL. Elliott is averaging 137.3 rushing yards over the last three weeks combined. He’s scored three times over that stretch. He looked impressive between the tackles against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 5 breaking off a 60-yard touchdown on a play that normally leads to a 4- or 5-yard gain. The Green Bay Packers possess the best fantasy run defense in the NFL. While that should slow down Elliott a little bit, he will be among the best running backs in the league once again in Week 6.

Whether or not Elliott will have wide receiver Dez Bryant in the lineup to support him is another question. If Bryant doesn’t play thanks to his fractured knee, Brice Butler will once again take his place in the starting lineup. After catching five passes for 41 yards and a touchdown in Week 4, Butler was held to just two catches for 20 yards against Cincinnati. He’s only worth starting in very deep leagues at the moment. Perhaps he has some upside as Green Bay isn’t very good against opposing wide receivers. It’s something to consider if you’re a fantasy owner who is OK with starting a boom-or-bust player right now.

The New York Giants did a fairly good job of trying to contain quarterback Aaron Rodgers in Week 5. Fortunately Rodgers was still able to guide his team to the win and guided his fantasy owners to 259 passing yards and two touchdowns. Although he did throw two interceptions in the game, Rodgers was still too good for one of the best secondary units in all of football. The Dallas Cowboys secondary isn’t nearly as good as that of New York’s — Rodgers should be able to put up solid numbers for fantasy owners as a result. This game will be a lot closer than most games Green Bay has played against Dallas in recent memory. That should bring out the best in A-Rod.

Seeing Rodgers play well against the Giants wasn’t a surprise. What was a surprise was the re-emergence of wide receiver Randall Cobb. He was supposed to be a top fantasy performer in 2015 as the team’s No. 1 receiver. Even with Jordy Nelson out, however, it just didn’t happen. In Week 5, Cobb caught nine passes for 108 yards. The unfortunate part of his productive Sunday night was that he didn’t score a touchdown. Cobb also took a monster hit during the game that may force him to miss Week 6. Hopefully he plays because fantasy owners need the chance to find out if his impressive game against the Giants was a fluke or whether he’s finally back on track. Only time will tell.
