Fantasy football projections, Week 7: Colts-Titans featuring Andrew Luck, Frank Gore, Marcus Mariota, more

The Week 7 matchup between the Indianapolis Colts and the Tennessee Titans features two teams looking to keep up with the rest of the AFC South. We’ve got the fantasy projections courtesy of numberFire.

Quarterback Andrew Luck has to be going into the Week 7 contest against the Titans shaking his head. His team allowed a late field goal against the Houston Texans to slip away in Week 6. Fantasy owners are likely happy that the game went to overtime, because Luck still finished with 252 passing yards and a touchdown against a pretty good defense despite the loss. He will be in for an equally tough test against Tennessee, as the Titans boast a vastly improved defense. The thought of Luck being a potential fantasy MVP this year should be a distant memory at this point. Fortunately, he’s still a high-volume passer which means he will continue to give his fantasy owners a shot at succeeding week to week.

Hopefully running back Frank Gore can help Luck out a little bit. He’s doing better this season than he did last year. Perhaps is getting better with age. Against the Texans, Gore notched 106 yards on 22 carries, marking the first time this season that he’s crossed the 100-yard plateau on the ground. Tennessee is pretty good against the run, but Gore has proven more than capable out of the backfield as a pass catcher this year. The fact that he can do both makes him a steady fantasy option moving forward. Gore should flirt with his projected totals in Tennessee.

The Titans head into Week 7 looking to win their third game in a row. Quarterback Marcus Mariota is a big reason for that. He’s thrown six touchdowns compared to just one interception over the last two games. Against the Cleveland Browns in Week 6 he completed 17 passes for a season-high 284 passing yards and three touchdowns. An interception knocked down his fantasy totals a little bit, but overall Mariota appears to be rolling. The Colts are suspect defensively. Mariota should be able to find open receivers down the field and scramble around the pocket at will. Week 7 could produce a third-straight big game from the Titans’ sophomore quarterback.

Perhaps Mariota’s play will benefit wide receiver Kendall Wright. Wright has become an afterthought in Tennessee, but he just may see some more snaps moving forward. That’s because Wright caught eight out of nine passes for 133 yards and a touchdown against Cleveland in Week 6. All of that production came despite the fact Wright played only 22 out of 62 offensive snaps in the game. Most speculative fantasy owners will take a flyer on the possibility he produces significant totals against the Colts. It remains to be seen whether or not he’s earned more work.
