The seventh week of the 2016 regular season is just about coming to a close with only the Monday Night Football game remaining. Most fantasy football leagues will run their waiver wires late Tuesday or early Wednesday, but we are here to help you get a jump on the best options to consider.
We will be ranking the top five players likely to be available in your league at each of the four major positions. Some weeks there might not be five good options available, but we’ll scour for the best we can find. Additionally, throughout the week, we will update each of these articles as ownership percentages change (via Yahoo!) and news arrives.
Waiver wire tight end rankings, Week 8
1. Jack Doyle, Indianapolis Colts (30 percent owned)
Doyle has two straight double-digit performances following injuries to Donte Moncrief and Dwayne Allen. He faces a tough Week 8 matchup against a Kansas City Chiefs defense that has given up the fifth-fewest points to tight ends.
2. Vernon Davis, Washington (23 percent owned)
Jordan Reed is not expected to play in Week 8, which means we get at least one more week of the re-emergence of Vernon Davis. Davis had his second straight solid effort, catching all six of his targets for 79 yards. This followed a Week 6 performance in which he had two receptions for 50 yards and a touchdown. Washington travels to London to face a Cincinnati Bengals defense that has given up the fifth-most points to tight ends.
3. Cameron Brate, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (31 percent owned)
Brate was unable to cash in on a solid Week 7 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers, but he remains a decent red-zone option for Jameis Winston. He is no more than a bye week fill in, but there is still some value the next two weeks with the Bucs hosting the Oakland Raiders and Atlanta Falcons.
4. Charles Clay, Buffalo Bills (26 percent owned)
Clay is the definition of a boring tight end option. After three straight weeks of five receptions, Clay had two receptions for 29 yards on five targets in Week 7. The Bills host the New England Patriots and then travel to face the Seattle Seahawks the next two weeks. He is not a great option, but if you have a short-term hole to fill, he is an option.
