Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera said that he has no idea about starting quarterback Cam Newton’s status for Week 5, according to Steve Reed of The Associated Press. Newton entered the NFL’s concussion protocol Sunday after he took a helmet-to-helmet hit on a successful two-point conversion attempt in the fourth quarter of the Panthers’ loss to the division rival Atlanta Falcons. The 2015 NFL MVP went to the locker room following the play and did not return the game. Newton will have to be cleared through the NFL’s concussion protocol program in order to play next Monday night against Tampa Bay.
Cam Newton’s status unknown in Week 5 for fantasy owners
The Carolina Panthers starting quarterback suffered a concussion and is under the NFL’s concussion protocol. We break down the fantasy impact.

Fantasy Impact: Concussions are always a tricky injury for players and their fantasy owners. There is a 50/50 chance Newton could miss just the third game of his career. The good news is he will get an extra day to rest with the Panthers playing Monday night. Owners may not get an update on Newton’s availability until Thursday. Should he be unavailable for Week 5, veteran Derek Anderson will get the start.
