Fantasy football projections, Week 8: Packers-Falcons featuring Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams, Julio Jones, more

The Week 8 matchup between the Green Bay Packers and the Atlanta Falcons features two high-flying offenses facing off against one another. We’ve got the fantasy projections courtesy of numberFire.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers finally looked like himself against the Chicago Bears in Week 7. He was forced to throw the ball a lot with wide receiver Ty Montgomery lining up at running back due to injuries suffered by Eddie Lacy and James Starks. Newly acquired Knile Davis should spell Montgomery in Week 8, but that doesn’t mean Rodgers will throw any less. This matchup has the makings of a shootout. Rodgers fed 10 catches to three different receivers last week. He’s unlikely to repeat that feat ever again, but he’s highly likely to go over 300 passing yards while tossing three touchdowns at the Georgia Dome on Sunday.

One of those touchdowns just might fall into the hands of wide receiver Davante Adams. Adams is a hot waiver wire pickup going into the game against Atlanta, and with good reason. He caught 13 of 16 targets against the Bears for 132 yards and two touchdowns. It looks like he may be pulling away as the team’s No. 2 receiver given the off-again on-again struggles teammate Randall Cobb has experienced over the last two seasons. Adams may not see 16 targets against the Falcons, but he could see six or seven catches and another touchdown.

After being arguably the hottest team in the NFL during the first month of the season, the Falcons have dropped back-to-back nail biters. Fantasy owners of wide receiver Julio Jones certainly don’t mind. He’s caught a total of 16 passes for 313 yards and a touchdown in those two games. A lot of his production has to do with the fact the Falcons have been playing from behind or going back and forth against their opponents recently. The storyline should be back and forth against Green Bay, so Jones will be counted on to keep up with Rodgers and company in Week 8. That bodes well for beating his fantasy projections on Sunday.

Quarterback Matt Ryan should also fare well. The Packers’ secondary unit is dealing with injuries heading into the contest. To this point in the season, Matty Ice is an MVP candidate. The San Diego Chargers’ rejuvenated pass rush helped to curb Ryan’s totals in Week 7. He did, however, throw for 335 yards and three touchdowns against Seattle the week before. Watching Mr. Rodgers and Ryan go head-to-head will be quite a treat for football fans and should be quite prosperous for fantasy owners.
