Fantasy football projections, Week 10: Rams-Jets, featuring Kenny Britt, Todd Gurley, Matt Forte, more

The Week 10 game between the Los Angeles Rams and the New York Jets is a head-to-head matchup featuring two of the worst teams in the NFL. We’ve got the fantasy projections courtesy of numberFire.

Fans are getting angry. They’re calling for quarterback Case Keenum to be benched and for Jared Goff to take over. Coach Jeff Fisher isn’t quite ready to pull the trigger.

That means the safest fantasy option in the Rams’ passing game will remain Kenny Britt, but that’s being generous. Britt had four catches for 49 yards and a touchdown against the Carolina Panthers in Week 9. As bad as the Rams are, Britt is on pace for career highs in receptions and yards. The New York Jets rank near the bottom of the league at defending fantasy wide receivers.

But those two things together mean its likely Britt would reach above his projections in Week 10 despite poor play at the quarterback position.

The same can’t necessarily be said for running back Todd Gurley. Make no mistake, the present and the future belong to the sophomore back. At the same time, it’s hard to do anything when teams can stack the box against you.

The good news is that Gurley is up against one of the worst fantasy rush defenses in the NFL. He had only 48 yards rushing against the Panthers, but it’s because he got only 12 carries. A 4 yards per carry average is still good. Consider that the coaching staff admitted during the week that Gurley needs to get more touches. He should get plenty against New York in Week 10. Don’t be too shocked if he reaches above 100 rushing yards as a result, even though his season high is 85.

Wide receiver Brandon Marshall got in Ryan Fitzpatrick’s face throughout the team’s Week 9 loss at the hands of the Miami Dolphins. That’s because Fitzpatrick routinely missed his top target throughout the contest.

Marshall has been held to 70 receiving yards or less in each of the last four games. It’s obviously not his fault, but that doesn’t mean he’s rising above his projections anytime soon. Fitzpatrick simply can’t be trusted.

Until Fitzpatrick proves otherwise, Marshall is going to have a tough time rising above expectations regardless of the opponent. Fantasy owners can only hope he can capitalize on a Rams secondary that has given up the 10th-most points to fantasy wide receivers this season.

If the passing game is awful again, the Jets will have no choice but to rely on the running game. While Bilal Powell continues to deliver some solid play, the bulk of the fantasy points are still going to Matt Forte.

In the last three games, Forte has rushed for 274 yards and four touchdowns. He was the only player doing anything against Miami and should have gotten the ball more. Considering he rushed for 92 yards and just 12 carries against the Dolphins, fantasy owners would be smart to ride the hot hand and start him in Week 10. He’s probably the Jets player most likely to beat his projections against the Rams.
