Fantasy football trade advice, Week 9: Buy-low, sell-high wide receiver trade candidates

Which wide receivers have the best and worst trade values heading into Week 9 of the NFL season?

There are a lot of surprises coming out of the wide receiver role in 2016. Top-tier receivers are hitting slumps midway through the season as they adjust to fill in, or to new quarterbacks. Conversely, new wideouts are hitting their groove while still flying under the radar. So which receivers should be in the trade talks this week?

Here are the wideouts worth picking up and trading off for Week 9.

Buy low

Jamison Crowder, Washington

Crowder’s cooling-off period looks to be heating back up. He caught a team high 19 passes for 267 yards and two touchdowns over the last three weeks out of the slot, including back-to-back outings with over 100 yards.

The second-year WR started the season on fire, catching 16 passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns through the first three weeks before hitting a little slump.

Crowder will see some tough matchups in the coming weeks, mainly Week 10 against Minnesota, which has shutdown receivers this season. Still, he stands to see a lot of work out of the slot role from quarterback Kirk Cousins even against unfavorable matchups.

Crowder is a good package trade candidate that can owners can stash on their bench to use in upside matchup scenarios.

Kendall Wright, Tennessee Titans

For the last three weeks, Wright has led the Titans in targets, catches, and receiving yards, while taking around just 40 percent of the offensive snaps. He is also tied with No. 1 WR Richard Matthews for the most receiving touchdowns (two) in that same span.

Wright’s situation is interesting in Tennessee, but the Titans need his production if they want to win. Keep an eye on Wright, as he is likely to get more playing time as his production continues to be solid. That comes at the perfect time, as the Titans have a great schedule in upcoming weeks against some weak secondaries.

Wright is a good waiver pickup to round out your wide-receiver core, and a great streaming option during the second half of the bye week period.

Sell high

Kelvin Benjamin, Carolina Panthers

It is clear that Benjamin has not been the same since returning from tearing his ACL. However, he is still one of the high-end receivers in the league and Cam Newton’s top deep threat.

The second-year WR is coming off a bad Week 8 though, when he only had two receptions for 73 yards and zero touchdowns. The next two weeks could be problematic against tougher defenses, as well.

Still, Benjamin’s value is fairly high, and he has a lot of upside matchups toward the end the season. This is a good time to deal Benjamin for another top-tier player before he gets into a potential slump.

T.Y. Hilton, Indianapolis Colts

If Week 8 was any indication of how Hilton will perform against tough defenses in the future, his fantasy owners have a real dilemma on their hands. Hilton had only one reception for 20 yards against Kansas City despite being one of the top fantasy receivers in the NFL.

Hilton should have a strong showing Week 9 against the Packers before the Colts have their bye. After that, he will face some of the league’s best defenses against the pass, including Pittsburgh, Minnesota, and Houston.

Now, while Hilton has value, is the time to shop him for a better option, especially for the playoff stretch.
