You know the drill by now: the tight end position is a fantasy wasteland this season, and the bye weeks just make things even more dire. Things won’t be any different in Week 10 with four teams off.
Fantasy football waiver wire: 5 tight ends to target for Week 10
We’re really scraping the bottom of the barrel during the bye weeks.

This week’s bye teams are the Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions, Indianapolis Colts, and Oakland Raiders. Those teams don’t really have a top-tier tight end, but it does take Eric Ebron (an every-week starter when healthy) and semi-useful streaming options like Jack Doyle and Charles Clay out of the picture.
This week’s waiver wire picture at tight end is ... bleak. There’s no way to spin it as a positive. But if you like dice rolls, there are no shortage of them. Let’s take a look at the least-worst wire options, owned in less than 50 percent of Yahoo! standard leagues.
Lance Kendricks, Los Angeles Rams (15 percent)
Kendricks has 14 catches for 145 yards in his last two games. He’s clearly emerged as Case Keenum’s safety valve. He also let a sure touchdown pass bounce off his hands on Sunday, but PPR players will take the catch numbers. Kendricks is usable against the New York Jets this week.
Austin Hooper, Atlanta Falcons (13 percent)
The rookie made his first NFL start in place of Jacob Tamme and had a productive night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, recording 46 yards and a touchdown on three catches. He’ll be worth a desperation start in deeper leagues if Tamme misses another game, but his fantasy ceiling is capped since Matt Ryan doesn’t target his tight end that often.
C.J. Fiedorowicz, Houston Texans (11 percent)
If nothing else, Brock Osweiler seems to like him. Fiedorowicz has 20 catches for 224 yards and two touchdowns in his last four games, which are decent enough numbers for most fantasy scoring formats. The tight position is so down this year that he has to be considered in 12-team leagues. The Texans come out of their bye and have a favorable matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Richard Rodgers, Green Bay Packers (eight percent)
Rodgers hasn’t done anything this season until Week 9, when he got six catches for 64 yards. That could just be a one-week outlier, especially with Jared Cook tentatively expected to return this week. Consider both men a low, low TE2 play, and only if you’ve exhausted all your other options. The Packers get the Titans next.
Will Tye, New York Giants (one percent)
It looks like Tye has finally supplanted Larry Donnell for good. He got the start and played 46 of 64 snaps against the Philadelphia Eagles, finishing with four catches for 33 yards. Tye may yet be a relevant fantasy player this year, and he’ll be a worthwhile streamer against the Cincinnati Bengals this week.
