However, a Thursday report from the Dallas Morning News suggests that Romo could be out for 8-10 weeks, rather than the more optimistic projection of six.
Romo will have another MRI this weekend, at which point the Cowboys must decide whether to keep Romo on the 53-man roster or place him on injured reserve, with a designation to return. The latter option will make him ineligible to return until Week 9 at the earliest.
Fourth-round rookie Dak Prescott will be starting in Romo’s absence.
Fantasy impact: While Romo’s exact timetable is unclear, we know for certain that he’ll be out until around the midseason point. That’s far too long to justify stashing him on your bench, so fantasy owners should be removing Romo from their draft boards in all league formats.
Prescott was impressive in the preseason, but it’s hard to predict how he’ll perform once the games count. He’s worth a bench flier in the double-digit rounds, at best.
